Running for Water
The Great Lakes, located primarily in the upper mid-east region of North America, is the largest group of freshwater lakes on Earth. Lake Michigan specifically is the largest lake that is entirely within one county. Leroy, Indiana is a little over 20 miles from Lake Michigan. I can go to Walmart and buy a 24 case of water for 3-4 dollars and think nothing of it, at times after a hot summer day I jump in a cold shower just to cool off. Long story short, freshwater is one of the most convenient things for many of us to find.
Sam Staal wrote an article last week called “More Than Just A League”. It highlighted how fast life can pass us and challenged us to focus on what priorities are important. If you haven’t read it, please check it out here. Recently in our board chat he challenged the older guys in our league to be a better example. With many players in our league in college a lot of crucial decisions will be made in girlfriends, jobs, houses, etc. in the near future. Who we choose to hang around with determines the environment we allow ourselves to be accustom to, it will influence us whether we think it does or doesn’t. With his recent leadership he is taking it yet another step further.
Earlier in the year, Sam announced he will be running the Chicago Marathon on October 7, 2018 and is partnering with Team World Vision. He will be running to help provide life changing clean water to children in communities in Africa. Nearly 1,000 children under the age of 5 die every day from diarrhea caused by contaminated water, poor sanitation, and improper hygiene. He recently came to me and said that everything donated this weekend WILL BE DOUBLED by an anonymous donor. Please consider helping Sam, but more importantly using your money for something good. Let's work to double his goal and give him the motivation he needs to run 26 miles!
We live in a free country with an abundance of “conveniences”, one being water. Another is the convenience of how easy it is to help those in need.
